Original Theatre Presents Hard Times
‘The minds of reasoning animals must be formed on Facts: nothing else will be of any service to them.’
Dickens’ novel – which attacks the way the industrial revolution turned workers into machines of hard labour, and draws attention to the conflict between Fact and Fancy – is brought brilliantly to life in this production.
A cast of four will be changing scenes, characters and costumes at high speed, bringing to life such wonderful characters as Mr Gradgrind, Mr Bounderby, Louisa, Sissy, Tom, Mrs Sparsit, Bitzer, Sleary, Stephen Blackpool, and all the rest.
Original Theatre presents this play in tribute to one of the world’s greatest writers, Charles Dickens, who celebrates his 200th birthday this year. Like so many of his works, Hard Times contains messages that are still relevant, and, of course, a richness of language and character that is uniquely his.
